Cat D5K Track-Type Tractor bulldozer

Short Description:

Track frames are available in extra long (XL) and low ground pressure (LGP) configurations. The XL undercarriage features a larger ground contact patch, enhanced flotation, excellent balance and excellent fine grading performance. Additionally, LGP undercarriage features wider track shoes for increased ground contact area for optimum flotation and stability on slopes and fine grading. As an additional option, the low ground pressure undercarriage on the D5K can be fitted with 762 mm (30 in) track shoes.

AccuGrade laser control systems and GPS systems help you grade faster with fewer passes and less labor.

Product features

1. Cab
The operator station is designed to keep the operator comfortable, relaxed and productive throughout long shifts. Standard air conditioning available as a cab option; spacious cab with more leg room; fully adjustable air suspension seat (heated seats available for colder climates); wide door openings for easy operator entry and exit; clear visibility of blade corners and bottom of cutting edges, especially important in fine grading, roadbeds and curbs; 4 dB(A) reduction in operator noise levels inside the cab to an industry-leading 80 dB(A) – ANSI/SAE J1 166 OCT 98 Standard. This provides the operator with a quiet and comfortable working environment that reduces operator fatigue and increases their productivity. For optimum comfort and precise control, the D5K is ergonomically designed with seat-mounted controls. Seat-mounted controls insulate the operator from shock shock and allow independent adjustment of the seat and controls. Each wrist rest and armrest can be adjusted independently for optimum comfort.

2. Monitoring Suite
An easy-to-read display provides important system information. Buttons below the display allow the operator to select parameters for forward/reverse speed, blade response, steering response and decel pedal operating mode.

3. Dozer blade control device
The ergonomically designed joystick is easy to use and reduces operator fatigue. Intuitive controls make operating the dozer simple and easy for experienced operators and novices alike. A new handle shape follows the shape of the hand, giving the operator precise lift and tilt control of the blade and reducing operator fatigue. Thumbwheel controls blade angle and operates with less effort than other competitive machines. The blade rocker button on top of the handle provides instant quick tilt motion for easy removal of material from the blade.

4. Combined deceleration/brake pedal
The deceleration pedal performs both engine speed control and braking functions. The brakes are applied by depressing the pedal below the bottom of the service brake. Pedal mode can also be changed to control transmission speed via the select button on the display panel.

5. Hydrostatic transmission controls
Speed, direction and steering are all controlled through a single, easy-to-use, low-effort joystick that reduces operator fatigue, allowing the operator to get more done. The joystick controls the direction and has three simple travel positions – forward, reverse and neutral. When the machine is running, if you want the machine to move in which direction, just move the joystick in that direction. The farther the joystick is moved to the left or right, the greater the turn. The steering works reliably and reliably no matter what the ground conditions are.
Joystick-mounted speed control thumbwheels are used to precisely increase and decrease speed, allowing the operator to select the optimum speed for ground and job conditions. It also eliminates power interruptions when changing speeds. An optional read speed button on the joystick is used to select a predetermined speed setting.

6. Mobility
Strong steering enables you to handle large loads around corners or in hard spots. Strong steering improves maneuverability in soft ground conditions and is efficient on slopes. Reverse rotation provides easy and quick operation in tight areas or crowded job sites.

7. Engine
4.4 L (269 in3) displacement inline four cylinder engine with Cat common rail fuel system. It features a series of Caterpillar engineering innovations – ACERT Technology, which provides advanced electronic control, precise fuel delivery and refined air management for excellent engine performance and low emissions. It meets US EPA Tier 3, EU IIIA and Japan MOC Tier 3 emission standards.
With increased power, enhanced durability and reliability, and faster response to load changes, the C4.4 delivers power when you need it. The engine design is more compact and the cab is positioned more forward, improving machine balance and increasing operator comfort. Engine and transmission control systems are integrated to optimize performance and fuel efficiency.

8. Chassis system
Undercarriage makes up a significant portion of a bulldozer’s operating costs. Caterpillar offers two undercarriage options for your application needs, minimizing operating costs. Sealed and Lubricated Track (SALT) undercarriage is standard; SystemOne undercarriage is optional. Full-length guide guards on top of track roller frames prevent abrasive material from falling onto moving parts. Machine balance is key to maintaining good grade performance. The D5K features longer tracks and a stable platform for optimal balance. It gets your job done faster and easier than competing machines.
The optional innovative SystemOne chassis system can greatly reduce the maintenance time and cost of the chassis system, reduce your cost and improve your income. This innovative system features a rotating bushing design that extends bushing life and eliminates the need for bushing rotation. Swivel pin bushings combined with long life sprockets and center deck idlers increase overall system life and reliability. Suitable for almost any application or ground condition, the SystemOne undercarriage significantly reduces vibration for a better, more comfortable ride for the operator.
Sealed and Lubricated Track (SALT) undercarriage comes standard for long life in harsh operating conditions. Segmented sprockets are easy to replace and less expensive than replacing the entire sprocket hub.
